Training for ministry: about Artizo

Three of the driving assumptions that led to the creation of Artizo:

  • Gospel ministry is both caught and taught.
  • Leaders need to be identified, trained, and equipped.
  • Without an intentional process nothing will happen.

The Artizo Institute is a Canadian initiative with a mandate to identify and equip Christian leaders committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Artizo seeks out young men and women with gifts for ministry, and prepares them for a future in ordained ministry. The Artizo Institute helps these individuals grow in godly character, theological understanding, and ministry skills, particularly the effective communication of the gospel.

Artizo was created to help replenish the Anglican Church with godly and able leaders who are equipped to meet the many challenges facing the Church. Artizo actively and deliberately identifies men and women who are gifted as preachers, teachers, and leaders, and encourages them toward ordained ministry.

The Artizo Apprenticeship gives these gifted individuals the opportunity to participate in a broad spectrum of ministry activities, under the tutelage and guidance of experienced mentors. From practical hands-on experience to theoretical readings and discussion, participants benefit greatly from this unique training experience.

Artizo recognizes the vital connection between educating and training ministers, between theology and its practice, between ministry taught and ministry caught. We seek to capitalize on these connections in order to maximize the training experience of our interns.

Artizo is interested in establishing additional locations for training within Anglican churches across Canada, in increasing the number of interns in the program, and in gathering the support of concerned individuals from across Canada.

Definitions

Gospel ministry is not primarily about:

  • maintaining institutional structures
  • numerical church growth
  • managing a large organization
  • liturgical reform
  • keeping people busy
  • running programs
  • ordination

Gospel ministry is:

the act of serving people by clearly communicating the good news ('gospel') of God's saving work as it is articulated in the Bible: teaching, warning and proclaiming Jesus Christ in a variety of settings, so that people may come to faith in Jesus Christ and that those who belong to him may themselves be built up, strengthened and equipped for the work of ministry.

The Artizo Institute trains able, faithful, innovative and confident gospel ministers to know and understand the Bible, lead effectively, proclaim the gospel, and be able to train others to do the same. Artizo prepares young leaders for full-time ministry by allowing them to serve the body of Christ in their local church with experienced gospel ministers as mentors.
"Maturity in Christ, and usefulness for Christ are the gains that the Artizo program offers to Christian young men and women. I am enthusiatic about this program. Already, I can see Artizo alumni standing out as leaders."
