Growing up in Australia I always thought that everyone in North America was Christian and that there were good churches everywhere. It came as quite a shock to me when I first came to Vancouver in 2006 that it was such a pagan city, and that it was a similar story across Canada. I found that churches that believe the authority of scripture and actually teach the Bible are few and far between.
Being on UBC campus as part of my Artizo training the last 2 years has shown me the great thirst that people have for truth, purpose and meaning – the great thirst they have for God. The only way to quench this thirst they have is with the living water that Jesus offers. I think this pattern seen on campus is a reflection of Canada as a whole. People are searching for things to fill the gap they feel in their life, and as life continues the things that they were putting their hope and trust in let them down. They need rescuing. Artizo 2010 graduate Tripp Prince will be joining the pastoral team of the New Grace Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He expects to be ordained this June.
Churches in Canada seem to have no trouble preaching (running a service or someone sharing a message from the front), but the message that most churches are preaching is not the Gospel. They are not preaching words that give life, they are not preaching the full truth of scripture, they are not preaching from the Bible to convict hearts and change lives. Unless the Word of God is preached, people cannot respond and believe! Churches in Canada need to hear this message! The Artizo Institute seeks to equip gifted potential leaders who will serve Christ and His church in Gospel ministry so that by God’s grace, we will see people come into faith in Jesus Christ and grow in maturity and be able to actively share Christ with others.
