Spring 2009 preaching

God has richly provided Artizo with training placements for preaching around Canada. The best way to train preachers is to have them preach in front of real churches – we are thankful for those opportunities. Some of the places Artizo interns have been preaching God's Word this spring include:

  • St. Alban's Anglican Church in Ottawa
  • Runnymede Community Church in Toronto
  • The 'Meeting Place' in Toronto
  • Grand Valley Institute Women's Prison in Toronto
  • St. John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church in Vancouver
  • Dunbar Lutheran Church in Vancouver
  • the Church of the Good Shepherd in Vancouver
  • Campus for Christ at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver
  • St. John's Anglican Church in Richmond B.C.
  • the Chinese Christian Gospel Church in Burnaby, B.C.
  • St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Delta, B.C.

Gospel Coalition Conference (April 20-23, 2009)

One of the highlights of the Artizo training program this spring was the Gospel Coalition Conference in Chicago. Nine Artizo interns attended this four-day conference. The theme of the conference was 'Entrusted with the Gospel' and was based on the book of 2 Timothy. Speakers included Don Carson, Mark Driscoll, John Pipler, Tim Keller and Philip Ryken. Artizo also had an information booth at the conference to make contact with potential interns and training bases. It was a great opportunity for the interns to get Gospel input and network with other ministers. For more information about the Gospel Coalition please visit www.gospelcoalition.org.

Christ's Church Oceanside Mission (May 28, 2009)

A team of Artizo interns and university aged members of St. John's Shaughnessy travelled to Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island in May to help out with Christ's Church Oceanside's Mission to their local community. Interns received valuable practice in real-world evangelism, mission and team ministry.

May 31 – 2009 Graduation!

May is the time of year that we say farewell to those completing their Artizo internships. In Vancouver, Ben Ferguson, Keith Ganzer, David McElrea and Nerida Peart completed their Artizo internships. In Toronto, Marion Karasiuk and in Ottawa, Amy Belder, John Loftstedt and Elliot Rossiter. We celebrated their graduation on May 31. Please continue to pray for these graduates. Graduation is also a special time for us to thank those who make the Artizo program possible, such as the many financial supporters. Many joined us for a BBQ lunch after the 11:00 am service at St. John's Shaughnessy Church.

Direct debit available

We have responded to requests from some supporters to give to Artizo via direct debit. Please fill in, sign and return the form by mail.

Teaching preaching

In this Artizo newsletter, we are looking at ‘Teaching Preaching’. Artizo interns' preaching: a view from the pew

“I have felt very blessed by having the Artizo students preaching to us at the 7:30 am service. I have been impressed with their willingness to put great effort into preparation for a congregation of around thirty members at this early hour on a Sunday morning. It is interesting to see how they change over a period of several months... read more

Teaching preaching:
eight ways Artizo teaches preaching

  • Get them preaching a lot!
  • Help them before the crunch
  • Break the sermon down to critique it
  • Let them find their voice
  • Give them a good model to ‘catch’
  • Have them teach someone to preach
  • Have them critique themselves
  • Teach them that ‘the first 50 years are the hardest’

The Artizo Institute trains able, faithful, innovative and confident gospel ministers to know and understand the Bible, lead effectively, proclaim the gospel, and be able to train others to do the same. Artizo prepares young leaders for full-time ministry by allowing them to serve the body of Christ in their local church with experienced gospel ministers as mentors.
"Maturity in Christ, and usefulness for Christ are the gains that the Artizo program offers to Christian young men and women. I am enthusiatic about this program. Already, I can see Artizo alumni standing out as leaders."

Canon Dr. James I. Packer
Director of Anglican Studies Program at Regent College
