Hi. My name is Keith Ganzer and I completed a two-year ministry training internship with Artizo at St. John’s Vancouver Anglican Church in June 2009. My training with Artizo involved a range of activities – from children’s Sunday School to men’s ministry to pastoral care and more – and always included preaching the Word. There are many wonderful memories of my time in Artizo: seeing children come to understand something of the holiness of God from Exodus, exploring the depths of Christ’s love in an Ephesians Bible study, visiting with some of the elderly saints of St. John’s.
The central component of my Artizo training was preaching. While I came from a background of hearing strong expository preaching, I had few opportunities to preach myself. Artizo provided those opportunities – lots of them! I was able to preach frequently and in several different congregational settings. This experience, together with the consistent, thoughtful feedback I received as part of my training, was invaluable. It gave me confidence to apply the exegetical skills I had learned in a way that would faithfully and winsomely communicate the Word. And as I began to interact with the people who listened to my preaching on a regular basis, I saw firsthand something I had not realized before – that preaching is a profound act of pastoral care.
Now one year out of Artizo, I have been ordained as a deacon in the Anglican Network in Canada and am the curate at St. John’s. In this position, I continue to grow in many areas of pastoral experience, including preaching, but there is no question that my time in Artizo was invaluable preparation. It provided a foundation in a wide range of ministry involvement that gave me the experience and confidence needed to take the next step. I am grateful to many of you who support Artizo and pray that this vital training program will continue long into the future.
